Life On The Yellow Brick Road

Just a little introduction to us and an introduction on the reason we choose the name "bricks of yellow" for our blog title.

I love analogies and I am very visual, so being able to create a word story in my head just makes sense.  As long as I can remember, I have always believed that my life story was very much like Dorothy's journey down the yellow brick road.  At times we are each Dorothy herself, just making her way home.  Other times we are the Scarecrow looking for a brain, the Lion looking for courage or the Tin Man looking for a heart. Along our own personal journey, we can often fit into the shoes of one of these epic characters and often, we may find that we personify each character all at once. We are all human beings and we are all essentially on the same path, searching for the same things.

Just like in Dorothy's story, the yellow brick road is full of twists, turns, pitfalls, friends, family, love, trust, hope, heartache and sometimes just plain life. There are times that we each choose to sit down and stop walking, or we may encounter the poppy fields and stop to rest a while, maybe the "wicked witch" (AKA - whatever issue you may have) is stopping your progress.  Regardless of all these things, eventually we each get up and continue in our own personal quest to get to the Emerald City.  This can be viewed either literally or spiritually.  The concept works the same.

Rather than regress into the past - which is history - I am choosing to begin our story from Dorothy's perspective, looking for HOME. This first blog will be long, but basically it's to document our journey and the remodel of our house. But, first... let me introduce the clan.

My name is Aimee, I am a single mom to 3 great kids. Justin, Maegan and Sarah. Maegan is co-writer and creator of our blog.  She is currently in college, studying Interior Design.  Justin has decided to serve our country in the Army and will be going to boot camp in March. He has his own blog called Lovely Banter - please check him out too. Sarah is in junior high and loves to cook and bake.  When we want cupcakes - all we have to do is ask!  I believe that the other kids will be guest writers from time to time.

We also have some four-legged family members, Fabian our female kitty who is almost 2. Finn is a 6 month old orange tabby kitten and we are also inheriting another kitty with the condo.  We don't know much about him, except he is older and his name is Whisper.  That is going to change. We have decided to name him Frank.  Please do not nominate us for an episode of "Cat Hoarders" - we know it's crazy! But we love them.

Tomorrow, we close on our very own HOME.  The first one that has been just OURS!!  It is a 5 bedroom condo that needs some updates and remodeling.  Nothing serious, since the place has good "bones" as I like to put it.  We will be painting and eventually re-carpeting.  For now, we have "vintage" 80's blue/grey sculpture.  It's fabulous!  I will post photos very soon.  We will include before and after shots so you can see our progress. To put it mildly... WE ARE SUPER EXCITED!!!!

We hope you can relate to our journey - from our "bricks of yellow" to yours.
